Clove Bud Essential Oil

When it comes to aromatherapy, clove bud essential oil is the only of the clove oils that should be used as the others are powerful skin irritants.  When using clove essential oil, MUCH less is more.  Clove oil should be used at a ratio of only 1% in a carrier oil or product.

Clove is known for being an excellent pain killer when it comes to toothaches.  It is still used as an antiseptic in modern dentistry.  Many toothpastes and mouthwashes also include clove oil.

Being a powerful antiseptic, clove essential oil is wonderful to use when there is an epidemic of any sort within your household.  If the family is coming down with colds or the flu and other contagious ailments, reach for the clove oil.  Using an old metal pan (that no longer has good use) fill with water, orange slices (just for the scent) and a few drops of clove essential oil and simmer on the stove top.  Feel free to add your favorite potpourri to the mix or add your clove essential oil to your favorite potpourri burner or oil burner (mixed mainly with water)

INTERESTING FACTS:  Clove has been used in midwifery as an antiseptic and in preparation for childbirth.
